Objective rules and subjective taste
Brand drift comes in two flavors, and a useful checker has to catch both. The first is objective: banned words you never want to see, claims you are not allowed to make, required details that always belong in an offer, capitalization and naming conventions. These are deterministic; a checker can flag them with certainty. The second is subjective: does this *feel* like us, is the humor level right, is this too salesy for the channel. These are matters of judgment, and pretending otherwise produces checkers that either say nothing or nitpick everything.
The Brand Guardian handles the split honestly. Objective violations are reported as violations, with the rule that fired and where. Subjective alignment is reported as scores with explanations: category-level breakdowns of voice, tone and messaging, each finding shown with the evidence that prompted it, so you can agree or disagree on the merits. The output is a score with a diagnosis, not a verdict. You keep the pen.
Using Guardian across your whole pipeline
The Guardian works on anything you point it at: library assets before they ship, campaign outputs before you schedule them, and pasted-in copy from anywhere else, including drafts written by freelancers, partners or other tools. That last case is quietly one of its most valuable uses: external copy is where small businesses drift most, because outside writers bring their own voice, however good. A thirty-second check aligns their draft with your rules before it ever meets a customer.
Applied corrections save to your library as a corrected version, leaving your original intact for comparison. Over time, the pattern of findings is itself informative: if the same category keeps scoring low, that is a hint about your Brand Brain rules or your team's habits, not just about individual pieces. Consistency becomes a measured practice instead of a hope, which is how brands that stay consistent actually do it.
